AirAsia Asean Basketball League Teams up with 2crank.com

EVERY budding singer-songwriter dreams of having his or her songs heard by an audience.
Talents on 2crank.com, a local Web-based portal for independent and new musical talents, are getting their dreams realised.

The portal recently teamed up with AirAsia Asean Basketball League (http://aseanbasketballleague.com/) to provide selected talents and artistes registered with the portal the opportunity to reach out to 600 million people in Southeast Asia.

A collaboration between AirAsia founder Datuk Tony Fernandes, Indonesian media giant E-Live Entertainment and the Southeast Asian Basketball Association (SEABA), the Asean Basketball League (ABL) is made up of six professional teams from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Brunei.
“For starters, 2crank.com will be getting new and rising talents to sing the national anthem, Negara Ku, before every home match here in Malaysia. Already seven artistes have performed it since the start of the current season, in October, last year,” says ABL CEO Kuhan Foo. Among these are Farah Asykin and Prema Yin, while new talents include Angie Lym, Faith Ding, Ushera and Ibtisem Khan.

ABL will help promote 2crank.com talents across the region via its official website and social media network. “We will be showcasing some of the talents on the weekly highlight programme via the ESPN network, as well as local terrestrial TV in Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. We will also be seeking the best singer or group for a promotional video for next season’s campaign,” Foo adds. Meanwhile, 2crank.com managing director Hazmi Yaacob (also known as Remmy) says the collaboration is a step towards bigger things for both the portal and its members.

“2crank.com has 5,000 members now and over 800 original compositions since its inception over a year ago. The whole mission of 2crank.com is to have the cream of the talent pool be discovered so that they can be a benchmark for others. We plan to provide the same platform and opportunities to talents in Indonesia and the Philippines, facilitated by the collaboration with ABL,” he says. 2crank.com plans to launch its Indonesian microsite and will be going on tour with ABL in Bandung, Jakarta and Jogjakarta.
“There is a massive indie talent pool in Indonesia and we’re excited to be there,” he adds.

Remmy further elaborates that once signed up as a member for free at 2crank.com, a talent can post compositions, write reviews, news bulletins, participate in forums, put up classified ads and more.

“2crank.com doesn’t guarantee instant success, but it promises — with the grace of the listening audience out there — due recognition of an artiste’s work. We want you to get paid for your music. And you will. When a listener downloads an artiste’s music for a fee, part of the money goes to the artiste concerned,” says Remmy.

What's New » Interviews » Bandel Band - INDONESIA - BAND

1. What is it that music offers that other art forms can't?
It is a cliche question for a band and it is hard to answer to, well I can tell you what I think of our music, first of all we play all kind of music here and that makes us have a lot of reference to express our self through our music, we can play very rock n' roll, very blues, very techno, once again you name it and we will play it with joy, and sometimes we mix all that in one song. We think all kind music has their own atmosphere and it can bring listeners to be in their own imagination place, but as a band "Bandel Band" we play all kind music with little bit pentatonic blues scale http://www.bandelband.com/

2. What is your favourite album of all time?
Appetite for Destruction by Guns N' Roses.

 3. To you, how important is the sense of rhyme when writing lyrics?
Rhyme is a tools for writers to guide listeners to be in the right atmosphere, it is a map for listeners to be in their imagination place.

4. Who are your personal songwriting heroes?
Axl Rose, Izzy Stradlin, Mick Jagger & Keith Richard.

 5. Would you choose to satisfy your own artistic integrity before you try to please your fans? Why and how?
I choose to satisfy myself first, I believe that an honest expression can entertain people. So if wecan satisfy ourselves with our own music (meaning we enjoy it) it can also please other people too.
